i am going to try to leave the sap story at the front door. but for real, 2010 has by far been my favorite year in a long time. i had dinner with jen last night and said "the best thing i ever did for myself was start a blog." it really has changed my life! is that so crazy? well i don't care if it is. i have met some of the most ridiculously talented people, poured my inspiration heart all over the internet on a daily basis, found out who i really am in this big huge design world, evolved like crazy, stuck to my guns, did a whole lotta things i didn't think i could do, i mean the list goes on and on...

i am so beyond beyond beyond grateful that some of you guys come stop by my blog every day to find inspiration! it feels so satisfying to share my voice and my opinion with everyone. your support & sweet comments mean everything to me. thank you for all that trust. in 2011 i am going to spread these little wings a little further and i am taking all of you with me.

so yes, i kinda hope my 2011 looks like this oversize, decorated, weird & beautiful swan. and i hope yours looks like whatever your mind dreams it to be. happy new year, friends.

everyone always gets down on themselves around the new year. "i need to change this. i should really stop doing that. this year i am going to be much better at doing so-and-so." i was totally inspired when I saw Erin from Design for Mankind post her list on what she was going to keep doing RIGHT in 2011. how inspiring right?

photo: carl kleiner

here is my stab at a list:
  1. you may be a little bit anal and a perfectionist when it comes to your work, but it keeps the quality up, so don't stop moving those millimeters and fixing that tiny little thing that's not right.
  2. you did a really good job eating healthy this year. and i know that saying no to butter and carbs is sure not easy. but kudos on finding a good balance.
  3. look at how much you are saving! you didn't need that extra pair of shoes anyways. let's keep saving those dollars in 2011, k?
  4. this year, you worked like a crazy woman. but it is what you love to do. and all that hard work is going to pay off. don't stop being so disciplined. and don't ever stop doing what you love.
  5. you went to the dentist this year and didn't cry like a little girl. i know the dentist is pretty terrifying, but good job facing your fears. it wasn't even that bad, keep going.
  6. i think you blogged almost everyday this year, and made up for it when you had to miss a day. let's keep inspiring people next year too.
  7. i think you brushed your hair a little more than you did in 2009. three cheers for grooming!
  8. you did a really good job turning the lights off when you left the house. low electric bills rule.
  9. last january, you quit your job and took a leap of faith because you felt uninspired and in a dark place. and now look what an awesome decision that was! keep trusting your gut. guts know best.

let's be positive this year, eh? what did YOU do in 2010 that you want to keep doing next year!?

my sweet boy got me this for christmas along with a cool grinder and i just love it! (look below, goldie is on ginny's list too!) i decided i needed to stop spending $52,000 at coffee shops and make my own already! now i just have to figure out how to use it and i'm all set. but even when i am not using it, it's gold, so i will probably just stare at it.

working from home has its perks, that's for sure. today i indulged in some sweet little pies from Simplethings Sandwich & Pie Shop on 3rd St with two of my foodie gals, joy & bonnie. i am not a huuuuge sweets fan, but these little things were just delightful.

i think my favorite was the missouri mud.

S O R R Y

so i am gonna be honest here. because i am really good at that. i used to hear the word J.Crew and my response would be "meh"...i just couldn't get into it! but then bri got a little older, and that switched the game up. now i just can't get enough of their beautiful styling, the way they mix solids with sprinkles of sparkle, and their use of color is outstanding. now i am totally mad at my younger self for just not getting it. and kudos to you, jenna lyons!
