so you remember my friend emily? come on, yes you do.
she had glitterpits at this party! and that's her in the red top and shiny pants at my birthday party. well, she is a real star, that girl. her new SHOW, secrets from a stylist just premiered on HGTV and we all celebrated with her this weekend!!
now i am going to be honest here, i am not a huge fan of interior design shows, i just can't ever give them my full attention. but not this one dude. emily has such a fresh take on design, she's funny, down to earth and can show you REAL tips on how to make your house awesome for minimal amounts of cash.
and she even made over joy's living room on her show! i was blown away by the transformation! and also really jealous i didn't get emily's magical wand in my living room!
so proud of you emily! and everyone watch her show! i am serious!

our
oh.ban.fest yard sale was such a success! and we all had so much fun and sold the heck out of our stuff! i am one happy girl today because I scored a ton of polka dot bowls, wooden trays, ceramic plates and little trinkets from jen's barn at the sale too! (i mean look at that photo! so many treasures in there) i am finding any excuse to eat snacks at my house so i can use them. thanks to everyone who joined us and got your spend on.

and speaking of awesome spaces! have you seen
my post today on sfgirlbybay! the stripes and exposed brick are to die for.

"where is somewhere you get inspiration other than the world wide web?"

j: "Now - tricky random question Bri! I LOVE my internet, and I find sooo much inspiration daily sitting in front of my imac... however, I do also love to while away hours cruising second-hand book shops and thrift stores grazing through old mags, antique books and racks and racks of vintage dresses! There is so much design and textile print inspiration just waiting to be discovered...My favorite places to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon 'op-shopping' are the Lost and Found Market in Collingwood, The Chapel St Bazaar in Prahran, Melbourne and The Mill Markets in Geelong.

today for {day in the life} I wanted to share with you someone that inspires me! you know how sometimes you run across a blog and think to yourself that you have found your design soul mate? well, that happens to me when i visit the aviary! i love how inspired mary is by patterns and tiny colored triangles. are you feelin her items? follow the links to call them your own:

1. Swimsuit 2. Deer Sculpture 3. Aesop Hand Cream + Gift Kit Packaging 4. Necklace 5. Walnut Dresser 6. Surfboard 7. Geometric Rug 8. Spaces Magazine

this recent new york trip was entirely too much fun. all of us rue gals got to be together, staying at the
Gramercy Park Hotel (which is an unbelievable hotel!) Check out those hanging bulbs, i mean come on! For some reason it felt like a secret society hotel because of dark and mysterious it was - in the best way possible!

we also had a little behind the scenes shoot for issue 4 of rue magazine! we are saving some of our fun hotel shots for the magazine, but here are some of us prancin around the streets like happy little birds. thank you so much trent bailey for making us feel so special that day!

that big red bow? i know, right! my adorable intern emma made that for me and i love it so much! you can get one too right here!

"jennie, why don't you tell our friends here where your favorite place on earth is and why."

j: "bri, that's such an easy question. duh, it's the parker in palm springs. and here are my reasons why it is my favorite place on earth...in list form. (ps. paris is a close second)
  • their delicious blueberry pancakes cost $18 and i don't care.
  • i feel rich the second i pull up to the valet
  • i saw a meteor shower the first night i stayed there.
  • they have hermes soap - i mean c'mon
  • they don't get mad if you steal their palm springs yacht club towels
  • you are offered a shot of whisky before your massage
  • the room service menu is one of the prettiest things i've ever seen
  • free bubbly water
  • four poster beds
  • trashy novels in each room
  • they've got bunnies!
  • it's a great place for a polaroid camera
  • the valet's wear pink pants
you get the picture. just go there if you haven't yet...and tell 'em jen sent you. (they'll have no idea who you're talking about)"

obviously it is time to interview jen for {day in the life}! one of my very best friends, and the funniest gal around. i had been following/obsessing over her my polaroid blog before i started working with her on ban.do projects. this chick is one of a kind. seriously, her brain explodes with spectacular ideas. sometimes she comes over and we wear tutus and drink whiskey cider while sitting in front of my computer thinking of how we can rule the world. i am going to stop bragging on her right now before she gets a big head, but if you want to buy some of those awesome things jen picked out, then get to it:

1. Pillow 2. Chemex Coffee Maker 3. Ankle Boots 4. Novel 5. Bourbon 6. Couch 7. Love Barrette 8. Polaroid Camera

AND GUESS WHAT! joy, jen and i are having a yard sale this month, head on over to
Oh Joy for all the details!!

certain client relationships are just the best! the ones that you don't have to fluff the emails, you just get down the the knitty gritty with and get the job done right. i recently redesigned graham and ashley's logo for Scobey Photography and it turned out to be one of those dream projects, where they totally understood my vision and rolled with it. basically, they wanted a bird, i am kinda sick of birds so i told them 'hey let's put a spin on the old bird thing!' and luckily they loved it!

i love ashley's initial email, "we wish that Scriptina would die a long, slow death." so, now i am the scriptina murderer! loved reading their sweet new logo reveal post!

next stop for them is a new site to have this logo live in! hold on tight, scobeys! here is their original logo and then after i got my hands on it:

we started off as just friends. not even flirty friends, really. just 'hey lets go eat a burrito at 7' kinda friends. now you are the guy that's setting up burglar traps on the door handles when i am too scared to fall asleep at night. and now i am the girl that when i go to a restaurant i always search the menu for what i think you will get first. every time i make you a late night snack, even if it's one scrambled egg, you always give me the biggest smile full of appreciation. i can always count on you, and i know that you will always make me laugh. even if that means reenacting your best bruce lee impression over and over again. thank you for always hugging me real close and still being my 'hey lets go eat a burrito at 7' friend at the same time.

i love you.

for my birthday, my boyfriend got me (and him) a cooking class at Hipcooks! it is three hours of learning mad knife skills, drinking wine, and cooking a delicious dinner to eat! we made butternut squash (and a mushroom/lemon) risotto, a few different types of bruschetta (the goat cheese being my favorite) and ginger-raspberry creme brulee. who knew it was that easy to make such a fancy dessert! it was such a fun experience and it all went down in this cool loft space at The Brewery. and guess what, it is only $55 a person! nothin right? see all of the classes they offer right here!

i had such an overwhelming amount of support when i took my leap from a stable job to freelance only. it was scary and there were definitely a few moments where i said to myself, "bri, are you an idiot?" the first week i woke up everyday with this strange feeling in my stomach. maybe it was anxiety, or who knows maybe i was just hungry. i had been so used to waking up early and working on freelance projects and then rushing off to my day job with my hair a mess and no breakfast, so it has taken me some getting used to. it has been nice teaching myself to slow down.

it is now the third week i think? today was the first day that i just woke up and i could breathe easily and know that everything was going to be okay. (i know this sounds a bit weird, but i know there are lots of people out there dying to make the same leap and i am sure they want to know how it all feels) so this morning i invented some sort of whack but delicious egg scramble for my boyfriend and i, made coffee and just relaxed on the porch. why do i need to check my emails the very second i wake up? i don't! at first i thought this freelance thing was stressful and always a hustle, but it's really not. some mornings you might not even have to work at all if you plan out your week right!

so i guess i just wanted to say, i am slowly getting the hang of things. and that feels really really good.

us
rue girls don't really like missing out on fun, that is just a known fact. so we found it imperative that we go to Hitched, the most bomb event of the year! yeah, so i am not getting married anytime soon, but all the vendors table setups and beautiful showcases gave me some pretty awesome ideas for when that day comes. plus, the flashdance was spinnin sweet sounds and there was confetti falling from the sky, so it wasn't all about the 'happily ever after.'

rue magazine had it's own little groom's lounge set up, with bow tie lessons, a pinball machine, haircuts, whiskey drinks and more whiskey drinks.

i have an album full of my favorite moments of the night if your heart desires more hitched goodness! here it is.

oh, and thank you lauren moffatt for that beauty of a dress, i never wanted to take that blue baby off! and those poufs on my head from none other than ban.do!
