i woke up and put on a sundress today. spring is here and I am hoping it's not going anywhere. i am also hoping with this warmer weather I will be inspired to actually eat healthier, because this rain has made my pants fit real snug. aren't these photos pretty? i hope my springtime is a little like this.

so we got impatient. our official move in day is supposed to be tuesday, but we already had the keys! so that was torture. so after a yum vegetarian meal at Bulan, we headed over to the new place with blankets and that 60's film Blow Up - which by the way is totally amazing and beautiful - and lit up the christmas lights for our first night at home. i woke up all giddy to watch the sunrise out our big huge windows and watched the cars drive over the bridge. so peaceful. i know, i'm getting all sentimental on you! but it's such a special time for me in life, so just let me be cheesy for a second ok?

the other night we went to The Living Room - oh which reminds me, I need to show you our new couch we got from there! - yep, we pulled the trigger on this good lookin tweed couch...

ok ok back to The Living Room. we went there for drinks and a little showing of an interior designer at the store, erika winters. we put our names in the drawing to win a free interior consultation and voila! we won! what perfect timing!

so i am taking a poll! i am revamping jen's photography
site a little because i am such a fan of her work and i want to take it to the next level (even though it's already super cute). buuut, we are picking some new polaroids to put in her shop and want your opinion!

1. which 3 are your favorite?
2. if you were to buy a print of one, what size would you want?
3. do you think jen is pretty and/or skinny?

and if you feel super inspired you can look at this right here and tell me which is your favorite there too!

thank you for being awesome.

now that rue issue 4 is over, i have started clearing my schedule (a little) so I can plan for
blogshop! angela and i were overwhelmed at the response when I posted it a few weeks ago! I had no idea so many of you wanted to learn photoshop! how awesome. we have started brainstorming fun items for goodie bags and activities that make this class seem like the coolest school around. the first class sold out, but there is a few spots left in our second one (yep, i guess we are going to do a couple of them!) if you have no clue what i am talking about, you can read about blogshop right here!

email angelakohler@me.com with the subject line: BLOGSHOP if you want to get on the list and she will get back to you when she returns from her job in india soon! (yeah india, woah!)

b:
"elise, what's your favorite gift anyone has ever given you?"

e: "my most favorite and cherished gift would have to be my grandmother's black opal ring that my sweet mother passed down to me. she enjoyed it while growing up and thankfully, i've gotten to do the same. it is an everyday staple in my wardrobe!"

so yeah, it's not tuesday. but that's okay right? i just really missed DAY IN THE LIFE and thought maybe you did too! today we focus on that pretty feather headed elise from
pennyweight! this gal blows me away with her lovely finds & constant stream of inspiration. and I love that she puts so much effort into her posts! i'm definitely wanting like 6 things off this list, how about you? well, you can have em:

1. Shirt 2. Ring 3. Stamp 4. Bag 5. Candle 6. Lip Balm 7. Wedges 8. Book 9. Chair

M O V I N G !

my brain is spinning out of control with layout ideas, what kind of rugs we will get, where the heck will i store stuff?, how will i create room separation?, how can i make arian's ginormous tv look good?...you know, the usual. my boyfriend and i are moving this weekend to the Arts District. Barker Block to be exact! and we are counting the minutes until then!! I will probably be blogging and asking you guys, ummm does this couch work there? no? ok how about heeeere? so get ready for that journey. and here is the space! it's 1100 square feet and those "closets" need curtains fo sho. i have never lived with a boyyyy before, so i suppose it is a mighty big step. wish us luck!

check pappin out, he's rad. and he can shoot your special day too.

working on finding the balance between work and life. haven't quite found it yet. and then throw moving into the equation and i'm in trouble. i do have high hopes for balance in april, however march is a different story.

luckily i love all of the projects I am working on and I am learning something new everyday. so i can't really complain. but i do think i need a day at the spa getting mud on my face and drinking cucumber water. i can probably convince
jen to go with me.

oh and angela took this picture of me. she appreciates fuzzy hair.

so you know how i am teaching a blogshop class with angela? well, she took my picture the other day in her studio, and we had lots of fun jumping around and making funny faces. here are some of the shots from the night. she knows how to capture my personality, that is for sure. that jumping one on the sidebar, the one i call cape jumper, was also shot by her too.

and remember, if you signed up for one of our blogshop classes, this gal will be taking your picture too! fun stuff. but if you want to hire these pros for other things, you definitely won't be disappointed.

oh! and thanks misha for sending me that cute red vintage barrette. i just love it!

so i am a little bit late today on day in the life! but it is so worth it! jaimi is my dear friend + owner of
fiore beauty. this girl gives KILLER manicures (and her makeup and hair crew is amazing, i'm serious) plus, she is just a cute little ball of sunshine.

she shallaced my nails the other day and took me makeup shopping and i felt like a new woman! i mean, this nail polish doesn't chip! it's a miracle for a girl like me who usually has stupid chipped polish everyday. i just trust jaimi on
all things pretty, and you probably should too.

1. Bathing Suit 2. Earrings 3. Journal 4. Nail Polish 5. Lip Crayon 6. Elephant Teapot 7. Spin Pin 8. Lip Butter 9. Shimmer 10. Cosmetic Bag

AND YOUR RANDOM QUESTION IS...

b:
"so jaimi, you are the most knowledgeable gal i know about beauty and girly stuff. can we just get one little beauty tip out of you, pretty please? or trick? just something cool that us non-girly girls can learn from!"

j: "Well let me see, I may just have a few up my sleeve!
  1. Instead of struggling to get the perfect symmetrical wing on your liquid eyeliner just close you eye, pull it taut to the side and make a straight line and when you open your eye it will naturally go into the perfect wing, all you have to focus on is getting a sharp point at the end.
  2. To get body into freshly washed and dried hair - spray just a bit of dry shampoo and follow it with hair spray.
  3. For polish that lasts wipe your nails down with pure Acetone to make sure they are obsessively clean before applying your base coat.

and if i knew how to make
these super cute hombre heart pillows, i would make one for all of you. well that seems like a lot of work, so maybe i'll design a heart print instead.

i have a little announcement of sorts! i get a lot of people asking me about photoshop. 'bri, we want to make our blog look cooooool.' 'bri, i want to put type on my posts like you do, how do i DO that?' in the end, what makes blogs interesting? original content, right? even if it is putting together found photos in a unique way. are you still with me here?

SO! i am teaming up with angela kohler (her and her fiance ithyle made these super awesome stop motion kindle commercials, you must have seen them) and we are here to teach you PHOTOSHOP! we have put together a whole lesson plan, and brainstormed fun ideas for our class! you wanna hear what we are thinking?

  • 2 day class on a Saturday and Sunday 8-6pm in Downtown Los Angeles on the tentative dates May 7-8.
  • super small classes for individual attention (15-20 people)
  • see those pictures above? that's angela's loft and where we will be having the class. the space is pretty unbelievable and that's where they created the kindle commercials!
  • the first day you will learn basic photoshop techniques like how to put text on your photos, adjust color, how to make your blog posts unique with layouts and much more!
  • angela will shoot your very own fancy studio portrait. so you are now not only learning photoshop, you are kind of a famous model too.
  • you will learn basic retouching skills using your own fancy portrait. do you have a zit on your forehead and really want to learn how to magically erase it? no problemo! we can teach you virtual proactive!
  • after that we will dive into mood boards, textures, borders and all of that fun stuff.
  • so you want to know, 'bri, how much is this all gonna cost me!' the cost of the classes will be $750, but the first session at the beginning of May, we are offering for a special price of $550. it's time to invest in your business and build your blog into something that you are proud of!

we are gonna end it all with fun! well, we plan on having fun the whole entire time, but we are gonna end it with a fun photo booth session. since she has one built in her loft! (and you will get to keep your digital photos) you will also take away a bag of goodies. but we can't give away all the surprises, because then it just simply isn't a surprise.

so here is where you come in! we want to know what YOU want to learn!

if this is exactly what you are looking for and just know you want to be a part of this, email angelakohler@me.com with the subject line: BLOGSHOP and we will start a list for our first class! it will be first come, first serve. jump on board and spread to word! we can't wait to get all geeky with you. email for questions/more details!

AND YOUR RANDOM QUESTION IS...

b:
"i know we are in this whole magazine world together. i used to cut up nylon magazine when i was in school and i always knew I wanted to be a part of this world. have you always known as well?"

a: Well, I think we are kindred! I have been in love with magazines for (what feels like) forever! Collecting magazines since I was a little girl, starting with Sassy & Seventeen magazine-- I have tubs of magazines from my childhood still stored in my parents basement (sorry mom!). The collection is still growing-- right now, I have five monthly subscriptions to some of my go-to favorites & we have six bookshelves in our tiny apartment dedicated to magazines & books. I may have a problem! One of my favorite things to do is hang out at my local magazine shop, flipping through obscure magazines & discovering new faves to add to the collection. It's an addiction I don't mind filling.

it's tuesday! day in the life time! meet alyssa, graphic designer and founder of
we like we love magazine. i first came in contact with alyssa when she featured designlovefest in her anniversary issue! she is really sweet and has a great eye for style (and i ain't just saying that because she featured my blog) get into all of her awesome chosen items right here:
