U N P A C K I N

if you hate moving raise your hand! (waves hands vigorously in the air) this week has been a bit, well, heavy. a lot of lifting, bickering and rearranging. but! it is coming together, and we can smile soon!

one thing i can say saved me a ton of stress, was using rent-a-green-box! these gigantic plastic green bins - they drop off to yo at your old place, you pack and move, and then they pick them up from your new place! how sweet is that? the worst thing about moving is after you unpack, having to break down those stupid cardboard boxes and find some random dumpster. seriously recommend these green lifesavers. i know my face looks disgruntled, but it's just because i am soo sick of unpacking and living in limbo!

ok let's talk closets. i am usually not into showing unfinished projects, but hey i need opinions! our closets are exposed. they are like naked closets. it sorta drives me nuts that the clothes all show like that, so my top priority is to hang some long curtains to hide the clutter. do you think we should hang them from (see photo) point A or point B? I am sorta leaning towards hanging them real high. what do you think?

really high, low will just look as messy

definitely A! then you can use the space above your closet for storage too. storage is definitely underrated esp. in open living spaces. good luck!

Another vote for high. It'll make the space look even bigger!

Go for Point A (the higher)!

I think you should hang them the height of the wall, it will look cleaner that way, I think.

My vote goes for high :)

I completely agree with your instincts! High! I think it will look tidier than B. And really take advantage of those great high ceilings!!

High. It will look way more dramatic.

Point A for sure......point B it would be like you wearing a bad pair of capris......just cuts it in the wrong place lol

from high definitely! we did this in our bedroom to hide away the exposed rail that houses our clothing, and when we remember to actually cover them with the curtains it looks much cleaner and nicer. I hate looking at clutter but I just have way too much stuff in not enough space.

high! then you can add shelves if you need 'em!

A for sure. Nothing looks worse than people trying to scale down from high ceilings. Too much empty unfinished space. I would actually try and build around so u have doors and can put more shelves above for things dont use alot. Doors from ikea wardrobes...

my gut tells me high.

A.
Point B would just look like a closet where point A would look more like an accent wall rather than a closet!

It looks like that part of the ceiling is a little lower than the rest (that's what I see from the pic)so hanging them high will make that wall look taller. Besides, it will hide part of the ventilation system.
Besos!

I freaking love it the way it is now! But I understand your problem!

I´d go with high!! will look great! cant wait to see the finishing result!

Of course high would look the most dramatic and cool, but not sure how it will work with that big vent pipe. I'm sure there is a solution, though. Can't wait to see it in person! : ) Mummsy

I had a naked closet about a 3 years a go, and did away with it. I loved the idea, and in magazines or catalogues they look awesome, but I guess in oder to have one of those that looks good you have to take into account 2 things:

1. All your clothes should be within a nice range of colours, probably not too dark so your room does not look gloomy.
2. You have to be extremely neat, find the right boxes and things like that and never ever leave anything out of place, or it'll look terribily messy.

Good luck with it!

after watching secrets from a stylist and seeing how beautiful and glamorous high curtains look. my vote is definitely high! so not only will your space look glamorous and roomier you'll also (BONUS!) get you more storage up high that is hidden!

sky high.

Add some shelving above and attach one of those rolling ladders! That's what I used in my space... added massive storage!

A fo sho. They'll look fab-u-lous!!

I like option A best! If the fabric is super cool it will be uber dramatic plus you could add more shelves behind it.
OR option B could have fabulous large art above but I feel like the closet could look like a random boxy/lump shape stuck in the corner with option B

Carissa said...

option A! It looks cleaner :)
so fun to help in the process!

I think you are right about hanging them real high, because or else you are going to create this naked open space if you hang them low and it might look a bit weird. and there are so many nice fabrics that that won´t be any problem to make the room look realy good. and maybe some carpets on the floor??

high, hi, high, high, hi, hi.

Drew {Coral Cafe} said...

Oh definitely Point A!

If you want to hang curtains, then go for A, because the height is, what gives places like this their charme (and install some more shelving up there to use up the invisible storage space!)
But: consider to build closets around the shelves with some raw MDF.

looks like i'm going against the grain... but i would say B. Only because then you could hang some funky box shelves or something above point B for a sweet little display.

i live in an apartment with a lofted ceiling and i had the same problem. I've tried both and i decided to for option b. (i have one curtained wall in the open living room and that one is from ceiling to floor and it looks very dramatic and lovely) but in a room, the ceiling to floor look makes the room look really stuffy and small. I tailored the curtains to fit the exact height of the closet, and put my fancy formal shoes on the top shelf so they are displayed nicely.

i also put a painting the width of the closet above it, and it looks goood while taking advantage of the extra space.

HIGH!!!

high for suuuure. it will make the ceiling seem waaay higher and look pretty sweet too! ;)

High!! add a shelf for storage under the vent for hiding items you hardly ever ever need but can't part with!

B! i love how bare and warehouse looking your place is... i think low would be interesting if you did two suspension cords holding a big metal free hanging rod - like metal pipe looking. A would look nice too but then it would cover the unique ceiling aspects.
