this week's three songs are inspired by the upcoming labor day weekend. they epitomize fun, relaxation, & are to be played in the graces of good company. whether you might be heading to a cabin retreat, beach weekend, or toying with the idea of doing absolutely nothing, these are sure to kickoff your own labor day mix with a smile on your face. enjoy! xo, dana



1. santigold “shove it" (ft spank rock) – a combination of reggae, funk & one of the most unique voices to grace our generation of sound, this one is best paired with a pomegranate margarita.

2. the fratellis “henrietta” – a ball full of energy, the fratellis embrace their use of rock mixed with catchy melodies to create a modern folk sound, that's caught the ears of many (you might recognize fratellis "chelsea dagger" from the recently released 'youth in revolt' film, featuring the always sauve michael cera).

3. stevie wonder “signed, sealed & delivered, i’m yours” – a classic by none other than the great stevie wonder, the intro guitar riff of this song sets up an easily remembered lyric that has been embraced by generation after generation, and will continue to do so.

west elm helps me lead a simpler life. this vanity is quite slick and changes my room pretty drastically (for the better). look at that amazing huge swivel mirror! i wish i could show you the STEPS to my room redesign, but I am more of a finished product kinda girl. so just wait a little while :) at my rate, it might be finished by....tomorrow.

my new side table lamp puts off a great moody lighting. loving the white tiles too.

getting your own designs in the mail is pretty fun.

i heard a knock at the door...saw the UPS truck. heart skipped a beat....and my thoughts went like this..."yes, yes yes, YES! MY CARDS ARE HERE!" The Mandate Press put on a little show too with their little card they included inside. I opened the box, and what do I see?...NEON PINK all over the place, & my insides are fluttering. I wanted to design a simple card with a little spice, so the colored edging & letterpress printing was an absolute must. Thanks for the terrific printing job, Mandate Press! mission completed.

arian and i watched objectified last night. i was moved. i even shed a tear! dieter rams was talking about his ten commandments for good design. those things get me every time! they really send chills up my spine because of the simple truth in them. my favorite has to be #10 - "good design is as little design as possible"

& we don't even need to discuss how interesting it was to witness the thought process of an Apple product designer. pure genius.

so we will keep this real simple, because dieter would want it that way...i loved this documentary. inspiring & recommended for all you creatives out there.
