1. “under african skies” (paul simon) – one of the best albums for a long-anticipated roadtrip, under african skies is a song you can feel. paul successfully utilizes all instrumentation in one way or another – even the simple sounds a human can make. harmonies paired with drums, keyboard, guitar & a simple lyric make paul and “the roots & the rhythm” the perfect addition to any music collection.
2. “clint eastwood” (gorillaz) – with a hook this catchy, a track this simple & a lyricist this dope – gorillaz hits the nail on the head here. released in 2001, clint eastwood channels classic hip-hop, undeniably played on repeat what ever mood you may be in.
3. “whip my hair” (willow) – i couldn’t go another week without addressing this surprising smash by none other than the fresh prince’s daughter – willow smith (who took the seal & prince route, going only by “willow”). sounding at least of the legal age (little willow’s only 10 years old), she took this record and k-i-l-l-e-d it. this jam is my new single ladies. watch the little one in her impressive video here.
