holy hell - that is awesome!
do it. it will be one of the best things you do for yourself. but whatever you do, don't skimp on the helmet. it's worth having to deal w/ helmet hair than a cracked skull (yes it can happen).
I've been pondering a bike too but hate the idea of a helmet, just so odd and geeky looking.
Yes! to the bike and Yes! to the helmet. Don't be one of those too cool for school types that don't wear em (unless you're just going down the street). And, you definitely got to ride in style, so I suggest these beauties: http://www.robswoodgrainbikes.com/#358427/Home
*LA is pretty flat so riding isn't that bad at all. I'm easily adapting to it here after riding the San Francisco hills :)
Oh my goodness, that cut-out is incredible and so sweet!
I know what you mean about the helmet - most of what's around is so daggy. I bought a really beautiful vintage bike with a basket ...and I could not find a helmet to match :/ the guy at the store was like 'this isn't a fashion statement' ...yeah right!
I would go without BUT in Australia, you'd get fined.
I love your blog btw x
You must must must wear a helmet, no question about it. As a cyclist wife, I heavily enforce the helmet rule. ;) Check out the Bianchis, they are super adorable. I'm majorly lusting after and saving up for the Milano Citta: http://cycleandstyle.com/2010/03/bike-of-the-month-bianchi-milano-citta/
lemme know if you have questions or need advice...that's what Hubs does for a livin!
Trust me, get the helmet. I've been hit by a car while biking to work; but I still bike to work only now with a mother-approved helmet. Just think of the helmet at a chance to accessorize... and make yours custom. Not necessarily flames, but whatever comes to mind.
Definitely get a bike! And most definitely get a helmet, there's tons of cute ones if you don't want to give up good taste: http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-bike-helmets-that-dont-make-us-vomit/P0/
Also, cute bikes and fun accessories: http://www.adelineadeline.com/bicycles.html
And if you want to be real hip and hardcore: http://www.eighthinch.com/gallery.html <-- I have one from here that I designed and I love it!
I love all the art being done from paper now a days. It's so delicate and detailed.
You HAVE to wear a helmet Bri, even if they're not cute! I know too many friends who have had scary accidents.
well, well! i just wrote a piece that happens to have run today about some amaaazing bikes that are so beautiful. they've been knocking around the internet a bit, so maybe you've seen them. a little $$$, but so beautiful: http://dailycandy.com/london/article/101573/Beg-Bicycles-Bikes-and-Accessories
No Helmet! I live in Amsterdam and we don't do helmets...ruins the fashion and also helmets don't really protect your head.
Even kids don't do helmets here!

So cute! You can just do that around the subdivision you're at, then you won't worry too much of wearing a helmet.

1. that's a bit amazing
2. definite no helmet - feel the breeze
my boy made me get one too.. he rides around on this black slick mean looking bike.. mine is a matt sage green with leather seat and basket on the front! I love it though and we spend a lot of time going from pretty country bike rides!
yes, hop on two wheels! there aren't too many warm weather things better than feeling the breeze on a bike. i have a raileigh retro glide that i loooove... the only thig about beach cruisers is they're usually kinda heavy.
i don't personally have one but i've seen several people wearing nutcase helmets... they're at least pretty simple looking though definitely not "cute." protective, though!
Please wear a helmet! I have a vintage bike I fixed up and refused to wear a racing helmet with it- plus regular bike helmets look like spaceships, amiright?
I got a Bern helmet and those beauties go well with the vintage vibe.
I love papercutsby joe! and hate sounding like a mom here, but YES wear a helmet!!! PLEASE you'll still be adorable!
OK, have a good day :)
You will love it! Although I spent months researching the cutest bike EVER, it's a dud on the road and made the outings suck big time! So now I got a better bike for the road but am spending time accessorizing it and making it "mine." Thanks to the girls above for the tips on finding a cuter helmet!
I'd say: request quiet long BIKE paths, that don't involve cars, just bikes and pedestrians. That way it's fun!!!

helmets that look like hats!!
Oh! I have the same problem... since I live in nyc, I really have to wear a helmet. My ugly "sports" one got a crack in it, and finding a cute helmet is hard... but I think you should wear one, and get the bike! They are so fun to have!
Def. get a bike. Sat afternoons cruising the bike trails with my hubby make up our favorite times!
